| Local historian Steve Peak will bring we West Hill story to life through photos and paintings, tracing the Hill’s character from then to now. When the West Hill began to grow in the early 1800s, it drew in working families and trades-people building a life by the sea. Brickyards, carpenters and masons fed the building boom; fishing and the tourist trade kept the Old Town busy. Terraced homes sat alongside larger villas chasing fresh air and views. Children played on the grassland above the cliffs, and the steep climb from town gave the hill a village feel.
